Faulty Goods: Fit for Their Purpose
Consumers have a statutory consumer right to goods which are:-
- fit for the purpose for which they are usually sold; or
- fit for any purpose which the purchaser told the trader s/he wanted to use the goods for
For example, if you told the trader that you wanted paint for a metal garden gate, the paint supplied must be suitable for use out of doors and on metal surfaces.
You do not have statutory rights however if you were aware of any faults before you made the purchase or if you later change your mind, for example if you decide you don't like the colour of the jacket you purchased earlier.
